The Circulation

The reading shelf for the Apocrypha — everything the people of Aura-36 wrote that nobody asked them to write. Not histories, not records, not filings. A tin, nine tellers, a casebook, a stack of letters that were never sent. These pass hand to hand rather than into an archive, which is why they are gathered here and not in the Archive proper. None of it happened. That is the point of it.

The Shelf

Sorted by form rather than by author, because a story told aloud in a foundry and eleven pieces in a child's tin are not the same kind of object and should not pretend to be. Filter by form, or by what you can read today.

How to read this shelf

  • Nothing here is true. Everything in the Archive happened. Nothing in the Circulation did. A made-up story cannot contradict a fact, so these are kept apart on purpose.
  • Nothing here is evidence. No date, no claim and no argument anywhere in the world rests on a word of it. The moment a work is used to prove something it stops being what it is.
  • Each keeps its own shape. Chapters, tellings, pieces, readings, leaves, cases, letters, articles, drafts, complaints. The container is part of the document and it has not been tidied.
  • Most are short by design. Roughly one winding down — the last four hours of a Lifestyle Block, which is when people on this planet actually read. Nobody here finishes a long book in one sitting, because the sitting ends when the glass goes black.
  • Every one of them is free. There is no tier, no unlock and no membership on this shelf.
